The Taste of Terpenes

Terpenes (Terps) are found in the ‘essential oils’ of all plants, giving them their smell and flavor. Cannabis is no exception, however the Entourage Effect suggests that THC, CBD, terpenes, and other cannabinoids work together to create the highs we all know and love. Because each of our bodies are unique, the effects of terpenes can differ from person to person.

The higher the terp percentage, the more flavorful your buds will be. However, if you want to figure out which works best for you, the QR code on our testing labels tell you which are present in each strain. This way, if you smoke and love the flavor and effects you can find more strains that are similar. There are currently 146 known terpenes that can be present in cannabis, but only a handful are regularly found in high percentages.

  • Myrcene

    • Mimosa’s dominant terp

    • Myrcene is the most abundant terpene in cannabis and has earthy, musky, and fruity aromas. Mangos are also high in Myrcene and can intensify your high!

  • Humulene

    • The main terp in Happy Hour's Curb terpene shot

    • Humulene gives subtle earthy, woody, and spicy notes. Both hops and cannabis share this common terpene, which also helps deter pests in the growth cycle!

  • Limonene

    • Freckled Lemonade’s dominant terp

    • Limonene gives a citrusy smell that resembles lemons, and is usually found in strains with "lemon" or "sour" in their name. It is mainly found in the skin of citrus fruits!

  • Linalool

    • The main terp in Happy Hour's Bliss terpene shot

    • Linalool has a spicy and floral palate. Many people associate the smell with Lavender, but linalool can be found in over 200 plant species!

  • Caryophyllene

    • Jelly Breath’s dominate terp

    • Caryophyllene has spicy and peppery notes. This was one of the first cannabis-derived compounds (other than THC, CBD, and CBN) found to bind directly to our body's endocannabinoid receptors. (more on this another time)

  • Pinene

    • Sour Apple Sweeties is high in this terp

    • Pinene tastes and smells exactly how you think it would, sweet n’ spicy like a pine tree. Pinene is also the most abundant terpene in nature!

    • Learn more about Pinene

  • Ocimene

    • Shamrocked and Do Si Dos are high in this terpene

    • Ocimene has woody, floral, and citrus notes. It is believed to be part of a plant’s defense mechanism against harmful elements, acting as a protective agent while also attracting pollinators like bees!

The entourage effect, and cannabis as a whole, is still widely under researched. Even though, doing your own digging you can find more information about terpenes and their potential health benefits and effects. Stay tuned for more posts about all things cannabis, and as always we are more than happy to answer any questions in store!
